Why Adoption Events Matter

Photos and bios online are helpful — but meeting a dog in person tells you things a profile never can. How do they respond to strangers? How do they walk on a leash? Are they calm in crowds, or do they shut down? Adoption events give you that real-world insight, and they give the dog a chance to meet you on neutral territory.

Doggy Dog World Rescue hosts and participates in events across the Denver metro area throughout the year. Here's what you need to know.

Our Events at Doggy Dog World Rescue

We host regular adoption events in and around Littleton, Colorado — typically on weekends. You can see upcoming events on our events page, which is updated as new dates are confirmed. Events are free to attend and open to the public.

At our events, you can:

  • Meet available dogs in a low-pressure environment
  • Talk with their foster families to get honest behavioral insight
  • Submit an adoption application on the spot
  • Learn about fostering if you're not ready to adopt

What to Bring to an Adoption Event

If you're seriously interested in adopting, come prepared:

  • Your household members — everyone who lives with the dog should meet them first
  • Your own dog — if you have one, a meet-and-greet at the event can jumpstart the process
  • A list of questions — ask about the dog's history, behavior, energy level, and medical status
  • Your vet's contact information — we may ask for a reference

Tips for Meeting Dogs at Events

Rescue dogs can behave differently at events than in their foster homes — the stimulation of crowds and other dogs can make even a calm dog seem anxious or over-excited. Keep this in mind:

  • Let the dog approach you, don't rush in with pets and eye contact
  • Ask the foster family "What is this dog like at home?" as a baseline
  • A dog that seems shut down may just be overwhelmed — don't write them off
  • A dog that's very excitable may be perfectly calm once they're used to you

Can't Make It to an Event?

You don't have to wait for an event to start the process. You can browse available dogs, take our match quiz, and submit an inquiry anytime. If there's a dog you're interested in, we can arrange a private meet-and-greet with their foster family at a time that works for you.
